I am coming off of an emotional love high from a weekend celebrating our precious daughter. I cannot wait to share all of the goodness + fun that was Evie’s birthday weekend – particularly her “Donut Grow Up” birthday party!
Yesterday was spent resting and relaxing and missing family who went back home. And today is a “get things done” type of day: organize and clean the house, sort through the mess of her playroom, and get ready for Easter weekend! So, today, I am sharing the most lived in and loved on room in our home…our open floor plan kitchen/den.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again…we hit the jackpot when buying our home. Every single one of the renovated updates were done by the previous owners and the woman just happened to have my exact taste, down to us having the same formal and every day china! Yup. I will never be this lucky again if we ever decide to leave! Another awesome perk of our design kindred spirits? Well, we didn’t even have to paint when we moved in the house because all of the neutral goodness left behind worked perfectly with my “dream home” vision!
Our home was built in 1954 and I love the charm of it. It’s the perfect combination of traditional + with the times. This sweet little (yes, it’s definitely cozy) den is filled with Netflix marathons, sofa snuggles, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse songs, Superbowl parties, and lots and lots of family time. The built-ins encompass little bits of our life with photos, books we’ve read, sugar peonies from our wedding cake, and the trophy my husband received when he and his dear friend won a Member/Guest golf tournament three years ago. I love how the built-ins tell a little bit of a story and “grow” with us through the changing of photos. And, yes, in the very center of our built-ins you’ll see a fun, colorful portrait of our Doxie pup. One of my best friend’s mamas is an artist, and I commissioned this through her for Spyros for Christmas one year. Yes, I’m a crazy dachshund lady!
One of my favorite things about this space is that I can cook and entertain in my kitchen while people are relaxing and watching TV or conversing in the den. I don’t feel left out of the party or like I am neglecting my guests. When not entertaining, I just love the ease of Evie being distracted by a show and Spyros coming home from work and relaxing on the sofa while I cook! I’m a huge fan of open floor plans!
I fell in love HARD with this kitchen. I love everything about it. Being in this kitchen makes me so happy. I get a ton of questions on the countertops–they are Carrara marble. Yes, they require upkeep, but Spyros and I are very regimented about keeping it neat & have a special spray we use. We are also always making sure we go behind people with cocktail napkins when entertaining. The countertops are so beautiful and the upkeep has totally become second nature to me/us.
Last but not least, I love our breakfast nook! We have gathered here with every single member of our families at least once and it’s so sweet and cozy. We eat breakfast together every morning and Doxie always winds up on the table. This little nook is just a happy, happy spot and one of the sweetest little spots in our home!
